Homework #2:

Internal conflict- In literature and drama, a struggle which takes place in the protagonist's mind and through which the character reaches a new understanding or dynamic change.
External conflict- In literature, a struggle between the protagonist and another character against nature or some outside force.

Corrie: (Major character)
Internal Conflicts:
1. She loves Karel but she doesn't want to tell him.
2. She is sad that Karel is getting married.
3. She is sad that Tante Bep died.

Corrie loves Karel but does not want to tell him. She is not sure if he likes her like that. After a while, she thinks he does like her. Then he comes to her door with his fiancee and tells her he is getting married. She acts like she is happy but really she is not. She is sad that he is getting married since she thought she might actually have a chance with him. Corrie is also sad that Tante Bep died.

External Conflicts:
1. Her mom is sick and she has to take care of her.
2. She is in bed one night and she hears bombings. So a war started again.
3. She met Karel and she loves him but he does not love her like that.

Corrie's mom is sick and so Corrie has to take care of her. It takes a lot of her time and energy. Then one night Corrie is in bed when she starts to hear bombings. She goes in bed with her sister and they start crying together. They know it means there is war. Also, she is sad because she loved Karel and she thought he liked her but then he told her he is getting married.

Karel: (Minor character)
Internal Conflicts:
1. He likes Corrie but he has a fiancee.
2. He is older than Corrie and she is in love with him but he can't be in love with her.
3. He is getting married but doesn't is hurting Corrie by doing it.

Karel likes Corrie, but he shouldn't because he already has a fiancee. Also he is older than her and he can't be in love with her. He has to choose between his fiancee and Corrie. He ends up marrying his fiancee, and Corrie is sad. But it was for her best. Marrying his fiancee solves the problem because not Corrie is forced to move on.

External Conflicts:
1. Corrie loves him but he doesn't like her like that.
2. He is getting married and his fiancee and Corrie don't get along.
3. Nollie likes him too but he doesn't like her either.

Corrie is in love with Karel but Karel doesn't like Corrie like that. He is getting married and that makes Corrie sad so she doesn't like his fiancee. Nollie also likes Karel but he doesn't like her either. Everyone is liking Karel and he can only choose one. Of course he chooses his fiancee because he already proposed. This resolves the problem, but also makes Corrie sad.

GOOD EXAMPLES OF THE INTERNAL/EXTERNAL CONFLICTS. THERE'S MORE TO THE ASSIGNMENT; REREAD THE DIRECTIONS.

Homework #3

1. Young people were turned into Nazis by the National Socialist German Students' League. It was founded in 1926 as a division of the NSDAP with the mission of integrating University-level education and academic life within the framework of the National Socialist worldview. It engaged the student population.

2. It fit Hitler's plan for a perfect world because it is getting more people to become Nazis. That means there will be less people who aren't Nazis, and Hitler wanted them to kill the people who aren't Nazis. Then his world would be perfect.

WHAT ABOUT THE AGES OF THE OTHER NAZI GROUPS THAT WERE TARGETED AT CHILDREN? HOW DID THOSE ORGANIZATIONS FIT INTO HITLER'S PLAN AND WHY WERE THEY ESSENTIAL TO THE PLAN WORKING?

They fit in because they are killing children and it is bad. Also they fit into Hitler's plan because they are helping to kill everyone that Hitler does not consider "perfect". They were essential to the plan since they help Hitler. His plan didn't work overall because we defeated them.
IT WAS ALSO IMPORTANT TO INDOCTRINATE CHILDREN BECAUSE THEY WERE EASY TO MOLD INTO THE 'ROBOTS' THAT HITLER WANTED. IF HE CONTROLLED THEIR MINDS AND ACTIONS, HITLER WOULD HAVE A LOYAL FOLLOWING AS THEY GREW OLDER.

Homework #4

Bandwagon- a popular trend that attracts growing support; "when they saw how things were going everybody jumped on the bandwagon".
Scapegoat- someone who is punished for the errors of other.

These relate to "The Hiding Place" because about the Nazis, people just joined Hitler's forces if everyone else did. They didn't want to be killed, so they killed people. They "jumped on the bandwagon". Also, they used the Jewish people as scapegoats and blamed everything on them and punished them for just being different.
EXACTLY. EVEN THOUGH THE JEWS HAD DONE NOTHING WRONG AND WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE EVIL IN THE WORLD, HITLER USED THEM AS A SCAPEGOAT AND GOT EVERYONE ELSE TO BELIEVE HIM.
